Why does YTD number grow continually throughout the year?

The YTD figure is a running total that tracks new earnings, deductions or financial transactions as they occur over the course of the year. The figures keep building throughout the year until they’re reset at the start of the next calendar or fiscal year. This is an excellent way to keep track of financial performance on an ongoing basis as it is year to date reporting.
